Facet Joint Syndrome, also known as spinal osteoarthritis, spinal arthritis, or facet joint osteoarthritis, is a significant health and economic problem affecting millions each year. Standard treatment options for this condition are limited; in the UK, NICE Guidelines advise against both repeated injections and fusion for back pain. Radiofrequency Ablation or Rhizotomy of the medial branch nerve has found recent popularity among surgeons and pain specialists as a minimally disruptive treatment for this condition. Unfortunately a high number of patients will have recurring symptoms requiring a follow up intervention within months of the treatment, as the medial branch nerve regrows and reattaches to the diseased capsule.
The DenerveX™ system is different.
This innovative handheld device targets the facet joint itself, treating the nerves with controlled, localised Radiofrequency and simultaneously debriding the surface of the facet capsule using a slowly rotating burr. This induces scar tissue to grow and cover the capsule, preventing the reattachment of the pain transmitting nerves and resulting in significant long-term pain relief. The treatment is carried out percutaneously, using sequential dilation to minimise tissue damage, and fluoroscopy to locate the treatment site without the need for painstaking nerve stimulation.
The DenerveX™ system is CE Marked and suitable for use on the lumbar, thoracic and cervical (C2-C7) regions of the peripheral nerves and nerve roots for the relief of pain associated with the facet joint. The DenerveX™ Pro-40 Generator is supplied with sterile packed peripherals ready for use.
